Defeating Denial

When I started attending AA meetings, I introduced myself as an "addict," I hadn't had a drink in close to two years. After I had been in the program for three months, I began to take a hard look at my past and what I found was that when I started to use drugs, it was because I had reached the point in my drinking where I was extremely violent and unpredictable. My behavior scared the daylights out of me, so I switched to tranquilizers and marijuana. I usually went to sleep and became somewhat more predictable when intoxicated by these drugs.
