The God of My Understanding

As a presumptuous, artsy, stoned college student back in the sixties, I read a line by the poet Baudelaire that I often quoted to give my drinking and drugging a spiritual flourish: "The depth of a man's debauchery is a reflection of his taste for the infinite." Good enough reason to get deeper into my debauchery (though any reason would have done just as well).
