Conservation of funds

Thank you for the October Grapevine. Ernie S. of York, Maine pointed out an issue that has also galled me. The practice of a group paying a representative's lunch, paying for gasoline, even car mileage had to me seemed an abuse on the part of the representatives. Ernie's example of his group's GSR even checking into a hotel at AA expense seems to be such a flagrant abuse of funds as to be almost humorous. Ernie S. is right; I've heard of lots of delegates traveling to various conferences, but am hard pressed to give an example of how I have personally benefited from any of these gatherings. I have benefited when someone picked up the phone at our AA office, or a coffee-maker showed up early so coffee would be ready for the meeting. So thank you, Ernie, for helping me put words to a vague feeling of discomfort I've also had about this.
