Many thanks

I almost gave myself a headache one night as I read a Grapevine article about some Pavlovian-like chants which have surfaced at some meetings. One of the things that has emerged as I have basked in the glow of the Fellowship is the ritualized saying of, "Thanks, Bob," or whomever, at the completion of a comment during a discussion meeting. It has been bothering me, however, that even if all that is said is "I'll pass," it garners a chorus of thanking, and it sounds so fake. I feel extremely uncomfortable when this is chanted at me during a meeting. It is, after all, a privilege for me to speak at an AA meeting. Many drunks never make it this far.
