Special Needs Committees

As AA has grown, so has the need to make AA accessible to all alcoholics. Many General Service Conference areas have established or are in the process of establishing special needs/accessibilities committees to look into ways of reaching out to alcoholics who may have difficulty in receiving the message through traditional means. The purpose of these committees is to help make AA accessible to everyone who desires it; to help alcoholics with special needs either get to meetings or have meetings brought to them. One of the guiding principles of many of these committees is that there are no special AA members, only members with special needs who wish to have the same privileges and responsibilities with regard to Twelfth Step work, sponsorship, and speaking at AA and non-AA meetings as other AAs have.
