In the Name of the Law
I came into Alcoholics Anonymous after having terminated a lucrative law practice four years earlier. I was sick and tired of hearing the immature babbling and petty bickering between clients, lawyers, and judges. I had more important things to do--like drink. I "retired" my practice after ten years, ostensibly to care for my small children. Having no responsibilities and no one to perform before in court, out came the carpet slippers and the bottle. For four years, I drank myself into the depths it talks about in the Big Book: that incomprehensible demoralization.
