That Simple Act of Surrender

The fact that I'm alcoholic is not new information to me, although I am newly sober. In 1980, when I was no older than seventeen, my employer suggested that I might have a drinking problem. She highly recommended that I enter treatment, which I did out of fear of losing my job. I had no problem accepting the Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous because my childhood religion had taught the value of trust in God, confession of shortcomings, restitution for harm done, and service to God and others. But I did have a tremendously difficult time leaving alcohol behind.
