Dial-a-sponsor--Not!

To all you literal minded AAs who telephoned 1-800-SPONSOR in response to the "Recipe for recovery" item in the "Distilled Spirits" section on page 40 of the November issue, please STOP! This is not an AA telephone number. In fact, it is the toll free telephone number for an organization called the Christian Children's Fund, which has absolutely nothing to do with Alcoholics Anonymous. Clearly it was a mistake for us to have printed any phone number at all, but we thought everybody would understand that the author meant the number only as a joke, that it wasn't supposed to be a real telephone number. Of course, we should have known better, so the blame is on us. At any rate, it just goes to show how hungry people are for information about sponsorship. So, if you really must call somebody to talk about sponsorship, please don't call 1-800-SPONSOR, call the editors at the Grapevine instead. (However, just to show you we don't intend to make the same mistake twice, you'll have to look our number up in the telephone book!)
