Anonymity: A Day at a Time in the Real World
When I was first sober and learning how to pronounce the word "anonymity," I thought it meant simply that we didn't use our last names at AA meetings. That was fine with me; I didn't particularly want the whole world to know I was an alcoholic. Because my drinking pattern included secret bingeing while I was alone, many of the people with whom I associated weren't aware of my alcoholism. They knew that something was wrong with me, but they didn't know what. So in early sobriety, I kept my mouth shut about my membership in AA.
