I would like to share with fellow Grapevine readers about our group and AA in Japan. In the Land of the Rising Sun, AA is nearly twenty years young. (The 20th Anniversary Round-Up is in Ohmiya, near Tokyo, on March 24-26, 1995.) AA is at about the same stage here, as America was in the 1940's. Hospital admissions are many, though medical professionals have accepted little or nothing about AA, and the drying out period still includes sedative administration. For the most part, many Japanese believe alcohol is a "mind over matter" problem. Although, there are many groups in big cities, only a handful exist in northern Japan.
