Norway--In 1992, a new social law was passed, instructing all government agencies to contact and cooperate with all voluntary efforts and self-help groups in the alcohol/drug field. AA is specially and favorably mentioned. Judicial authorities have also initiated contact with AA with the aim of establishing a program to offer attendance at AA meetings as an alternative for jail sentences for offenses committed under the influence of alcohol.
