Around AA

A drinking alcoholic reaches the point of surrender, picks up the phone, and finds out where a nearby AA group will be meeting. That night she walks into an AA meeting, gets a cup of coffee and holds it with shaking hands, and stays at the back of the room for a while. When newcomers are asked to introduce themselves, she gathers her courage, raises her hand, and says, "My name is--, and this is my first day." People applaud and she sees smiling faces all around her. Afterwards, somebody brings her a newcomers kit, complete with a current meeting list, an issue of Grapevine, and a copy of Living Sober. Several women come up to her and give her phone numbers. Some people going out for coffee invite her to join them.
