You and Me Against the World

A LOOK AT SOME OF THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS AA MEMBERS HAVE ENDURED--AND STAYED SOBER THROUGHOUT

It began like any day at the women's treatment center, where I'd been staying for about two months. A week earlier, I'd given birth to my first child, Benjamin, and had returned to the facility with him a couple of days later. I was exhausted and full of joy and fear at the prospect of learning how to be a human and a single mom. But my son appeared to be perfect, and I knew my Higher Power had brought us this far for a reason. My still-fuzzy mind was looking forward to the next day, when I was to receive my token for being clean and sober for three months.
