Cooperation With the Professional Community

Contact with nonalcoholic professionals has played a major role in my story of recovery from alcoholism. Before I sobered up in AA I lied to these people to keep them off the track, all the while expecting them to figure out what was really wrong and so be able to fix me. This was true whether the professional was an educator, a law enforcer, a judge, a doctor, a counselor, or a member of the clergy--and I came in contact with someone in each of these categories before I got sober. I had different reasons for lying to each, but I lied to them all.
