THEN THERE WAS THE COMMUTER who missed his ferryboat home and went into a bar for a few drinks. Around the time when the next boat was due, he returned to the pier only to see that the ferry was already ten feet away from the dock. Desperate, he made a running jump and just barely landed on the deck. A sailor helped him to his feet. "Nice jump, sir," said the crewman, "but why didn't you just wait for us to reach the dock?"
