The Realm of the Spirit Is Broad

The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous records the story of co-founders Dr. Bob and Bill W. making their first Twelfth Step call together, visiting "Anonymous Number Three" during his eighth hospitalization. On that first visit, they talked to him a little while about his alcoholism, asked him if he thought he could stay sober on his own, then inquired if he believed in a Higher Power and if he was willing to ask that Higher Power for help in staying sober. They then left him alone to think it over.
