The Harder We Chased Them, the Faster They Ran

It came as a shock to most of my family when I went to AA. Both my grandmothers, along with my mother and several aunts, were active in the Women's Christian Temperance Union. The favorite and most treasured piece of jewelry my mother's mother possessed was her "White Ribbon" pin. She wore it with pride and in between wearings kept it on a pin cushion on her bureau. I never met her but I heard about the pin from an older relative. Luckily she was spared the unhappiness of seeing me drunk.
