Making the Grade

I was a full-blown alcoholic by the time I reached college. I did my heaviest, most dangerous drinking at this time. Blackouts were a routine occurrence, so much so that my friends and I joked about having to piece together what we'd done the previous night. Promiscuous, bizarre, and violent behavior was the norm for me when drunk, which was almost daily. I began having the horrifying experience of waking up in a strange place, not knowing whose house I was in, what town I was in, or how I got there. Even though I was usually able to laugh and joke about my escapades, I really wished I could walk around campus with a paper bag over my head because I was so ashamed of my behavior.
