When I was in San Diego for AA's anniversary celebration, I read a local newspaper which interviewed a number of psychiatrists, psychologists, and organizations that claimed "AA doesn't work." They said more modern methods for recovery existed, while AA hadn't changed in sixty years! I was very impressed that the reply by AA World Services--when the newspapers contacted AA--came from the Tradition which states: "Alcoholics Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the AA name ought never be drawn into public controversy." The AA answer was, in short, "No comment."
