Sisters

I'm writing to thank Anonymous from Kentucky for sharing her experience, strength, and hope in her article, "No Secondhand Gods" [February 1996]. Just when I think that I'm so unique, I'm shown quite the opposite. Like Anonymous, I'm an ex-Catholic who came to be a practioner in comparative religion. I don't say much about my beliefs in meetings, except to use the term "the God of my understanding." I do wear the symbol of my faith, which has caused some folks to try to give me their opinions on my religion. I've also heard at meetings, "You'll go to hell for that New Age stuff," but that's okay. I know how I feel and I don't need any AA Bible-thumpers to tell me how to believe or to scare me with visions of hell.
