Let's Give Each Other the Respect We Deserve

A "cute" qualifier has cropped up recently in my area: "I'm an alcoholic. . .and a recovering Catholic." Because the phrase is trendy, people who object to it are treated as if they were overly serious and hypersensitive. It seems to me, however, that such people are actually sensitive in the best sense.
