We Are Here But for a Moment

I started my job with a large corporation in the midst of my active alcoholism and managed to hold on to it--though precariously--through fourteen years of drinking. I was given many sick days off, and there were many days when I was physically present but too hung over to do much. I stole many hours from this employer. Then, upon hitting bottom, I found the help and guidance I needed from my Higher Power--through the people in the rooms of AA--and I haven't had a drink since. By picking up the tools so lovingly placed in my hands by AA members, I was able to pick up the pieces of my life, including my secretarial job within the corporation.
