Marathon Man

When I woke up that morning in the detox ward of Beech Hill Hospital, I believed my life was over. Here I lay, wrapped in a white bathrobe and paper slippers, full of fear and angry at everybody and everything, including God. I'd been to a few AA meetings and didn't think the program or the people were for me. I was afraid to die and lacked the courage to live.
