A few years back I found myself in Fairbanks, Alaska on my fifth AA birthday. I attended one meeting at the Alano club there, and received warm birthday wishes. Later, I attended a meeting at a Fairbanks hospital. When called upon to speak, I mentioned that it was my birthday, and also said that I'd given my traveling Big Book to a man I had met at a treatment center in Anchorage because he couldn't afford to buy one. Not only did the group wish me a happy birthday, they gave me the group's Big Book as a gift so I wouldn't have to complete my trip without one. I have that book right here on the shelf next to my computer.
