I believe, after seventeen years of continuous sobriety in AA, that I've lost the choice to drink or not to drink. I suppose I have some sort of choice to go out again, but it would only come after not going to AA meetings, not working the Steps, not taking responsibility, getting self-pity and resentments, and allowing the thought of a drink to persist in my frail brain for some time without telling anyone, especially my sponsor.
