Carry the message--not the mess

In November 1994, when I was fifteen months sober, I began corresponding with an inmate I met through the Corrections Correspondence Service. For the first several months, she was too depressed to reply but persistence paid off and we built a relationship by mail. We have continued writing until she was released about two weeks ago. I'm hoping she'll continue to write but I imagine that the letters won't be as frequent. I keep her in my prayers daily. We managed to get to Step Nine by mail, and it benefited me because I had to continuously study the Steps to be able to explain them.
