What shall we do with the drunken sailor?

After twenty-two years of being a "drunken sailor," I've just celebrated one year of continuous sobriety. I received my chip at a small meeting in the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. I'm so grateful that AA is all over the world. We may speak different languages or have different skin colors, but the bond of being a fellow member of Alcoholics Anonymous is the same everywhere. I'm back at sea now and remembering that meeting in Dubai, where a man from India with twenty-seven years' sobriety gave me a hug and told me how much he related to my story and how much alike we were. Without the worldwide Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous, I wouldn't have had this experience 11,000 miles from home. Thanks to this Fellowship and my Higher Power, I'm finally starting to live and be "free at sea."
