Breaking the Ice
My first experience with AA was in outpatient treatment for acute alcoholism. I'd been found unconscious, taken to a hospital by the 911 crew as a possible stroke victim, and given a CAT scan. When they found my blood alcohol level was .32, they knew what was wrong with me. The hospital tried to persuade me to admit myself to their inpatient treatment center and I demurred in every way I could think of. But finally I consented to check myself into their outpatient program.
