Finding Fellowship

In the spring of 1990, as a member of the Canadian Air Force, I was on a joint military exercise with some members of the U.S. Navy in Thule, Greenland. My part in the exercise meant I'd be in Thule for two to three weeks. Being the only recovering alcoholic on the crew, and having only a few months of sobriety, I began looking for an AA meeting as soon as I was on the ground. At that time Thule had a contingent of U.S. Air Force personnel in place; so I started with the Air Force police. A helpful policeman recalled there was a meeting in the past, but thought it was now shut down. Someone else confirmed that no regular meeting was held on the base.
