While visiting Portugal some years ago I was invited out for dinner one evening by a Portuguese colleague. It was the date of my AA anniversary and I had already decided to find a meeting in Lisbon that night. I asked my friend to find a meeting for me by calling AA in Lisbon, as I don't speak much Portuguese. His response was that he didn't think there was alcoholism in Portugal! I assured him there was and that AA was alive and well in his country.
