Rejuvenated Recovery

With twenty years' sobriety, I'm an old-timer in my home district. I stumbled into my first AA meeting sick, bleary-eyed, and shaking like a wet dog. Treatment centers were places I'd never heard of. In my first year of sobriety, I was cradled and babied and confronted and cussed. Our groups were small and we all felt a part of them. All the members took me under their collective wing. I felt brotherly love for the first time. I began to experience friendship that doesn't end because of gossip or a difference of opinion. I was freely given what many of us now pay for in a treatment center.
