Truth Unchanging

When I was twenty-one years old, my doctor told me some people could drink with safety and others could not. He said I was one of the ones who couldn't drink and I should stop drinking while I still could. It made sense to me, so I quit. I didn't quit for one day like we do in AA, but for forever! Forever turned out to be a week and I was off again. Prior to that time, when anyone bugged me about my drinking, I'd say I could quit any time I wanted to. Now I was frightened. I knew I'd meant to never to drink again, and here I was drinking again, worse than ever before.
