Thanksgiving at the laundromat

As I look out the laundromat window, I see the almost bare branches of the trees. (The seasons of the year pass so quickly in my busy life, I sometimes don't notice them as they go.) I met a kindly woman in the laundromat today--she was doing laundry for a friend--and we exchanged holiday greetings. Warmth and joy are part of my life today. This is what sobriety has given me--brief daily encounters with people living in the same world I do, a friendly smile, a helpful hand, an opened door, and a kind word to another.
