How anonymous?

Today I came home to a message on my answering machine from a member of our Fellowship from Indiana. He was in town and wanted information on meetings. He left his hotel, room number, and name AA style: first name, last initial. I knew this was trouble but I called the hotel anyway. The switchboard operator said, "I'm sorry, sir, but if you don't have the full name I can't put you through." Anonymity may be AA's Twelfth Tradition but last names are rule one at most hotels in Las Vegas. So if you're coming to Vegas and need a meeting I'll be here for you. But you'll have to tell me your last name.
