Was my best day sober the day I celebrated one year's unbroken sobriety in AA? Or the day I found the courage to overcome my timidity and, in fear and trembling, told my boss that the way I was treated over a promotion issue was unacceptable, instead of--as in the old days--bottling up my resentment and failing to address the problem? It might have been the day I made amends to my lovely Al-Anon wife for the heartbreak and misery I had caused, and she replied simply: "It's all over now." Or maybe it was the time a sponsee phoned and said, "I tried praying like you suggested and I've experienced such peace of mind as a result."
