Twelfth Step Work Is Theme of Conference

The 48th General Service Conference convened in New York City between April 19 and April 26, 1998. The General Service Conference is the deliberative body of AA in the United States and Canada, and through its annual meetings and discussions, it considers a wide range of matters affecting the Fellowship as a whole. It is composed of ninety-two delegates who are chosen by their service areas, as well as forty-one nondelegate members who include members of the General Service Board, AA World Services Board of Directors, the AA Grapevine Corporate Board, and staff members from the General Service Office and the AA Grapevine. The Conference, of course, doesn't have the authority to regulate or govern any AA group or AA member, but its actions can act as a guide and directive to the policies of the General Service Board, AAWS, the General Service Office, and the Grapevine.
