Although I'm a faithful Grapevine subscriber, I'm not a member of AA. I am, however, a grateful member of Al-Anon. I'm writing in response to "My Life With An Alcoholic" by J.C.W. of Alberta, Canada (April 1998). My heart goes out to J.C.W. when he says that he didn't understand how or why his wife's addiction to alcohol started. In Al-Anon I learned that alcoholics drink because they have an illness. I also learned that I got just as sick emotionally, spiritually, and physically--yet I thought I was the healthy one!
