Tradition Two

I bristled a bit at a recent district meeting where a lively discussion took place on the subject of identification. "Let's find out what AA says--we'll call New York," said one person. Why is it that so many members often think of "New York" as the ultimate authority? (My service sponsor exhorted me to never use the term "New York" when referring to the General Service Office--which just happens to be located in New York City. She taught me well; I still cringe every time I hear the expression.)
