A Night to Remember
Two sober fishermen hook a wild party
I was a single man when I sobered up in 1953 and my sponsor was married with a family. Since he liked fishing, he thought it would be a good idea if I bought a boat. My sponsor was a very persuasive guy. The second year I had the boat, John, a tough old Nova Scotian I'd met in AA, wanted me to take him out for the annual big salmon derby. The first prize in this derby was ten thousand dollars, a small fortune in those days, especially for a couple of ex-drunks.
