Seven years ago I was two months dry, miserable and sorry for myself. I'd gone to some meetings but didn't go back--I decided I wasn't really an alcoholic and could quit drinking by myself. Then my first grandson was born with a heart defect and he was flown to a hospital in Ann Arbor for open-heart surgery. Since my daughter wasn't able to travel and my son-in-law stayed with her, my wife and I drove to Ann Arbor to be with our grandson.
