Stones for the Sea

When Victor Hugo was in exile he had a habit of each evening climbing to the top of a cliff overlooking the sea. There he submitted himself to profound meditation at the end of which he would cast stones into the sea. A curious onlooker once asked him why he did this, to which he replied, "I am throwing my self-pity away." This symbolic act for me pivots a headline that I must endeavor to imitate in my struggle to master alcoholism.
