Growth of a Men's Group

In 1981, a man in Carlsbad, California, found that he was sponsoring so many men that he couldn't keep track of them all. So he invited them over to his apartment every Wednesday night so they could check in with each other. Some of the men began bringing the men they sponsored, and soon the meeting outgrew the apartment and moved into the founder's office. It was at this point that a man I sponsored invited me to the meeting, and I have watched this fellowship of men grow ever since. The founder of the group soon became my sponsor. When he changed office locations, the meeting moved first to the back room of a restaurant, then to a hotel conference room, and eventually to its current location--the upstairs room of a church, where the men's group continues to meet every Wednesday from 8:00 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. We're a very active bunch of alcoholics with a strong focus on sponsorship and working the Steps. These days fifty to sixty men show up every week.
