I had my first drink when I was eleven. All of my eleven-year-old problems went away for a few hours. My first drunk happened on my eighteenth birthday. The following morning I swore I'd never drink again. My first arrest came at twenty-two. I was stationed in Italy with the Air Force. Coming out of a blackout, I was being taken into custody for disorderly conduct and being drunk on station. I wondered why I was being singled out. As a result, I had to go through an alcohol rehab program. The drug and alcoholism sergeant suggested I had a problem with alcohol. I suggested he was mistaken.
