It Takes a Home Group to Raise a Delegate

In the summer of 1998, the Grapevine announced a plan to publish articles from all eight regions in the United States and Canada, one by one, This is the first installment of that plan, and we hope it will give readers a sense of how AA works in the West

My experience in Alcoholics Anonymous has not only been life-changing, it has added to my store of experiences in ways I never could have dreamed possible. In April, I had the enormous honor of being able to participate in the 48th General Service Conference of Alcoholics Anonymous as a delegate. As I sat in the large meeting room at the Conference, I felt the unity of Alcoholics Anonymous. It occurred to me that every single person in that room was there because of the same spiritual principles: the Twelve Steps, the Twelve Traditions, and the Twelve Concepts. We had gathered from all over the United States and Canada for the purpose of forming the group conscience of Alcoholics Anonymous as a whole for the United States and Canada.
