Tornado

I was born in Omaha, Nebraska, but I spent a good part of my growing up in a prairie college town 200 miles to the west, a place with more cattle than people and lots of tornados. I guess that's what I was--the funnel cloud of a tornado whipping across the plain, tearing through people, money, material possessions, and of course booze. I've been sober since March 17, 1990, but I'm still only one drink away. I don't consider my time to be a significant length of sobriety. As one old-timer in a neighboring town puts it, "I've been sober as long as you have--since I got up this morning."
