Snapshots of Sobriety

I got sober in November 1980 at the age of fifteen, and during the summer of 1991, when I'd just graduated from college, I travelled alone to Florence, Italy to visit family members for a month. My father had come to America from Italy at the age of twenty-one, having met my mother while she was in Italy attending school. After visiting Italy with my father some years before, this trip was something I wanted to do alone, something like a challenge. I wrote in my journal often during the flights and while waiting for my connections, thanking God for the opportunity to travel. It was truly an adventure for me to be all alone and going across the ocean to visit family members I hardly knew.
