Trusting Our Future to AA Principles" Is Theme of Conference
In April 1958, Bill W. wrote in the Grapevine: "Every AA wants to make sure of his survival from alcoholism, and his own spiritual well-being afterward. This is just as it should be. He also wants to do what he can for the survival and well-being of his fellow alcoholics. Therefore he is found to have a vital interest in the permanence and well-being of AA itself." In 1951, Bill, Dr. Bob, and other early-timers had found a solution to the continued survival and well-being of AA in the setting up of an annual Conference--a gathering of delegates from the United States and Canada. This gathering deliberates on any matters of concern to the Fellowship. By Charter, the Conference "will act for Alcoholics Anonymous in the perpetuation and guidance of its world services, and it will also be the vehicle by which the Alcoholics Anonymous movement can express its view upon all matters of vital AA policy and all hazardous deviations from AA Tradition."
