You Can Go Home Again

Al K., born in the Czech Republic, has been sober for thirty years. In 1955, he fled his native country, escaping after being released from a labor camp. Eventually he made his way to the United States, got sober in Washington, D.C., and returned to his country after the revolution in 1990. Since then, Al has spent four to five months every year in the Czech Republic, helping to carry the message of Alcoholics Anonymous. (During the rest of the year, he divides his time between Florida and Washington.) Al was interviewed in the Grapevine offices by Kirk W., a member of the Grapevine's Editorial Advisory Board.
