Mustard Seeds: An Exploratory Trip to China

In May 1999, thirteen AA members, mostly from the San Francisco Bay Area, journeyed to China to learn something about the potential for AA in China and to share our AA experience, strength, and hope. I was privileged to be among them. We knew nothing about the state of alcoholism in China, the willingness of the Chinese to get the message, or what kind of reception we might get. Our object was to learn more about these subjects and see if we could sow a few "mustard seeds." We were able to arrange a trip through a Chinese travel agency and its U.S. contact, a knowledgeable and sympathetic Chinese physician who is a long-time California resident.
