It was June 1983, and I was celebrating my first anniversary with my home group in Austin, Texas, with people who had one year like me, and someone celebrating thirty-two years. It was a great feeling, but what sticks out in my mind the most was my sponsor, John H., coming up to me with an envelope in his hand and saying, "See? You did it one day at a time. Here's a little something to help you in your growth in AA." It was a paid subscription to the Grapevine for one year. And I haven't missed one year since.
